The Swiss turning center are not types of machines made in Switzerland but rather a type of turning center made available for the Swiss watch industry. It is used to turn small and complex precision parts which cannot be done by hand. It is used to turn parts that require a lot of secondary operations completely without any bridge in operation.
With the way it handles its operations, a Swiss turning center is made to allow parts of a tool to move in the direction of the Z axis with the tool remaining stationary unlike conventional lathes.

It is known to be different from other machines in numerous ways such as the motion on the Z axis comes from the stock rather than the tool making a change in the nature of programming, on a Swiss turning machine the bar stock would fall out of the guide bushing when retracting the stock if the parts are not segmented into sections and it uses oil rather than water as the cutting fluid unlike other machines.
