Swiss Turning Center

Swiss Turning Center Uses And Difference

The Swiss turning center are not types of machines made in Switzerland but rather a type of turning center made available for the Swiss watch industry. It is used to turn small and complex precision parts which cannot be done by hand. It is used to turn parts that require a lot of secondary operations completely without any bridge in operation.

With the way it handles its operations, a Swiss turning center is made to allow parts of a tool to move in the direction of the Z axis with the tool remaining stationary unlike conventional lathes.

A lot of companies have designed various ranges of driven and static tool holders, with it being designed optimally for the purpose of providing each machine with a tendency for higher productivity.

Additional Flexibility

The Swiss turning center has been made with different application specific tool holders which perform other duties other than the standard versions for operations which are axial and radical, these application specific tool holders are made to increase your productivity. Examples of such are gear hobbing units, angle and drill units which are adjustable, thread whirling units, high speed drilling and milling units, slitting saw units and deep hole drilling units. All these are being designed for machine tool manufacturers.

The Swiss turning center have machines more powerful than ever with fast cycle times and flexibility making them standard in precision high production applications. It is equipped with more tools and more options with controls that are highly sophisticated helping to streamline the process of machining.

Complex Parts

With it being the preferred option for turned long and slender parts, it is now also used for small complex parts with pieces without surfaces inclusive. It is also made with a support guide bushing for the sole purpose of the precision to be maintained throughout the machining process.

The Swiss turning center machine is different from other types of machines is that it has a head stock that moves and with its guide bushing doing the job of supporting the work piece to the tool against deflection, the work piece maintains its precise dimensions.

With the different types of Swiss turning center machine available it has room for many tool types in its tool zone with higher end machines having a provision for tool changers, it has the capacity of making complex parts with coinciding operations meaning a number of different tools can be at work at the same time cutting although its advantages are known to be from the guide bushing, the geometry and the mechanics in its tool zone.

It is known to be different from other machines in numerous ways such as the motion on the Z axis comes from the stock rather than the tool making a change in the nature of programming, on a Swiss turning machine the bar stock would fall out of the guide bushing when retracting the stock if the parts are not segmented into sections and it uses oil rather than water as the cutting fluid unlike other machines.
